We welcome and encourage alumni participation in wide range of services and activities at NJCU. Alumni assist in the planning of networking sessions and reunions, engage with students in fields of mutual interest, and are present to greet prospective students and their parents during Open House. In reaching out to talented young people in their communities, many alumni also play an important role in student recruitment. Others share a “real world” perspective with students in classes, public forums, and career networking events.
A core group of dedicated alumni have organized to plan events for alumni—both undergraduate and graduate level-- who graduated from NJCU in the past 10 years. Going forward, the group is interested in hosting career-oriented and social events both on and off campus.
Alumni and Student Entrepreneur Society
Alumni who are interested in starting their own business -- or already have -- should consider attending a meeting of the Alumni and Student Entrepreneur Society. The Society was launched in 2008 as a joint project of NJCU’s Office of Alumni Relations and Business Development Incubator (BDI). Participants have an opportunity to meet and network with NJCU alumni entrepreneurs, students and faculty, as well as leaders from NJCU’s BDI member companies.
Hosting an Event
If you’d like to organize a reunion of classmates or are interested in meeting alumni from your surrounding geographic area, please contact us.
Planning will start soon for the upcoming Reunion which will be a celebration for alumni observing a milestone anniversary in 2016. The members of the Class of 1966 from Jersey City State College will celebrate their 50th Anniversary on campus in May, 2016. Joining them will be Golden Gothics from the Classes of 1930-1965 as well as milestone anniversary groups from the Class of 1976 (40th Anniversary), the Class of 1986 (30th Anniversary), the Class of 1991 (25th Anniversary), the Class of 1996 (20th Anniversary), and the Class of 2006 (10th Anniversary).
Please contact us if you are interested in personally reaching out to members of your class to encourage attendance at this festive event, which will include campus tours, dinner, and entertainment.
All alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago are known as Golden Gothics. In 2016, the Class of 1966 joins the group, which includes graduates from 1930-1965. The Golden Gothics are an important part of the University’s annual commencement ceremony. Robed in academic attire, they join the procession with faculty and graduates, and are recognized for their important role in providing continuity in the University’s mission. The NJCU Commencement 2016 will be held May 12, 2016 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
